Every workplace or company is a business. Business education provides the owner of the business, its managers as well as its employees, who work in subject-specific positions such as accounting, marketing, research, and production, the opportunity to successfully manage the company’s operations.

The reality that is summarized above persuaded those who have undergraduate degrees from business administration to pursue a master’s degree in business administration in the context of improving their existing skills and knowledge as well as acquiring subject specific skills and knowledge and using them in the multidimensional context. On the other hand, those who have undergraduate degrees from other fields realized the fact that pursuing a master’s degree in business administration provides them the necessary education on business issues that will help them to compensate their weaknesses related to business management, in addition to learning how to analyze and interpret cases, as well as how to make predictions and projections for the future in the business context. Overall, pursuing a master’s degree in business administration is a pathway of gaining the ability of making rational decisions related to business operations. This educational path has been seen as one of the most popular educational opportunities in the global context within the framework of its depth and its relatively short period of time despite its period of scientific preparation for those who have non-business undergraduate degrees. In addition to those who have business or non-business degrees, there is no doubt that business managers who also intend to improve themselves in the academic context should pursue a master’s degree in business administration. Finally, it should be pointed out that pursuing a master’s degree in business administration is important for those who have business or non-business undergraduate degrees as well as for those who are willing to academically advance their careers.

Çankaya University’s master’s program in business administration (MBA) has two options, which are with thesis or without thesis. The language of instruction is English. Program with thesis is mostly convenient for those who are willing to academically advance their careers in business research. Transfer between with or without thesis programs is possible. However, if a student transfers from one program to another, it is impossible to transfer the student to the former program. Since the students have to register and take their thesis research course starting from the third semester, transfer from the program without thesis to the program with thesis must occur at the beginning of the third semester at the latest.

Çankaya University’s master’s degree in business administration is established on three pillars. One of these pillars is the scientific preparatory program for students who have non-business undergraduate degrees or for students who did not adequately take business courses while pursuing their undergraduate degrees within the framework of their transcript analysis (The mode of the scientific preparatory program is distant education). Second pillar refers to the compulsory courses, which are based on the fundamental functional areas of the business administration (management and organization, accounting, finance, operations, marketing etc.). Finally, the third pillar consists of the elective courses, which provide the students the opportunity to specialize in one of the aspects of business administration. In addition, those students who enroll in the program without thesis are required to prepare a project in cooperation with a project supervisor and this project must satisfy certain requirements. Master’s program in business administration (with or without thesis) is administrated within the framework of the Çankaya University’s Graduate Education & Teaching Regulations. It is possible to access these regulations from the link below.

Scientific preparatory program consists of three courses and takes one semester. Students who enroll in the scientific preparatory program have to successfully finish their courses within two semesters at most. The period of time that was used in the scientific preparatory program is not included in the maximum duration of the MBA program. Those three courses given during the scientific preparatory program provide students, whose undergraduate degrees are different from business administration, the necessary background knowledge on fundamentals of business, management, economics and behavioral sciences. Courses of the scientific preparatory program are offered in distant education mode. Without thesis version of the master’s program in business administration consists of 10 courses in total (applicable to the students who start the program in or after 2016-2017 Academic Year Fall Semester. Courses of the scientific preparatory program are not included) and a project. 8 of these 10 courses are compulsory and the remaining 2 courses are elective. With thesis version of the master’s program in business administration consists of 7 courses in total (applicable to the students who start the program in or after 2016-2017 Academic Year Fall Semester. Courses of the scientific preparatory program are not included) in addition to the seminar course and thesis research. 4 of these 7 courses are compulsory and the remaining 3 courses are elective.

We have been receiving positive feedbacks from our former MBA students related to the contribution of the Çankaya University’s master’s program in business administration to their work life. We point out that the objective of our program helps them to be promoted, to contribute to the business areas, particularly in the context of production, finance and marketing and to increase their ability to establish new businesses as well as to use their business knowledge in different sectors.
