MAN 501 Managerial Economics

The major emphasis of managerial economics is to provide theory and tools essential to the analysis and solutions of the problems that have significant economic consequences for the private, public, and-not-for-profit sectors of the economy. Managerial economics aims to equip students with tools of an applied branch of economics. The course includes topics to examine fundamental economic concepts, goals of the firm, optimization techniques, theory and application of demand, forecasting, theories and applications of production and cost, pricing and output decisions; pure and monopolistic competition, oligopoly and monopoly.

MAN 503 Management Principles and Systems

This course intends to introduce the essential concepts in management process, which uses human, financial, material and informational resources. The course is organized on four organizational themes. Starting with what managers do. In this part the focus is on management approaches, managerial ethics and responsibilities, environment and globalization. In the second part, the theme is planning and organizing, where we shall deal with planning, and organizational structure and design. The third part deals with leadership and human resource issues. Here we focus on human resource management, leadership, motivation, and teams topics. In the final section the main topics are: the control function of management and organizational change and development.

MAN 505 Accounting for Financial Reporting

This course focuses on the elements of financial accounting and reporting in the IFRS context. Tax accounting procedures in accordance with Turkish tax laws are also stressed. It provides an in-depth analysis of the accounting cycle, items of financial statements and preparation of specific financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, statement of changes in equity and cash flow statement. This course, also, covers the basic financial ratios in terms of liquidity and profitability and provides the basis for financial analysis from the perspective of stockholders, creditors, and financial analysts. 

MAN 511 Marketing Management

This course will explore the role of marketing in organizations and society. Specifically, we look at marketing-function, marketing mix elements; marketing strategy; customer analysis, market segmentation and product differentiation. Other core subjects that are covered include competitive analysis and product positioning; measuring and forecasting market opportunities; product development and testing product as well as brand management.

MAN 513 Financial Management

This course covers basic financial management concepts. Topics covered are: basic financial mathematics and valuation models, working capital management, capital budgeting, short-term and long-term financing, risk, cost of capital, capital structure, and dividend policy.

MAN 515 Operations Management

The course covers basic operations management subjects. Topics included are: strategy and competition, forecasting, aggregate planning, productivity and efficiency, inventory control – Deterministic and Probabilistic Models, supply chain management, MRP and JIT systems, operations scheduling, project scheduling, facilities location and layout, quality assurance.

MAN 519 Quantitative Analysis for Business Decisions

Business decision-making involves considerable complexity and uncertainty. This course introduces the basic concepts in quantitative decision analysis to help you gain a clear understanding of the key elements in the decision making process. In this course, we discuss methods that are used extensively in business organizations. These methods provide the students with the tools and the skills to approach, analyze, and solve problems of varying scales.

MAN 520 Human Resources Management

The course is designed to provide the students with broad perspective of human resource management. Emphasis will be given to the process of strategic human resource management, recruitment and selection, career development and compensation. Application potential of some of these topics will be explored. In two different topics we deal with a subject that can be described as the heart of managing people: Leadership. As successful organizations of the twenty-first century owe their accomplishments to the role that their leaders. In addition, cases and exercises of real word situations related to human resources from different organizations will also be discussed.

MAN 522 Financial Markets and Institutions

This course covers fundamental financial markets and institutions. Topics covered are: an overview of financial system with a special emphasis on Turkish Financial System, central banking and the tools of the monetary policy, banking industry, leasing and factoring industry, other depository institutions in the world such as credit unions, savings & loans associations etc., stock market, bond market, mortgage markets, derivative markets, foreign exchange markets, investment banking industry, and mutual funds industry. Both Turkish and foreign markets and institutions are covered.

MAN 524 Strategic Planning and Management

This course mainly covers the key concepts and principles for strategic management. Strategic Management process includes strategic planning, strategic implementation and strategic control, which are covered throughout this course. In order for the students to develop an understanding of strategic planning, first development of mission and vision statements are emphasized and internal and external environments are analyzed in detail. Alternative strategy types are discussed and the basic principles of strategy implementation and strategic control are also covered.

MAN 526 Contemporary Management Techniques

This course focuses on most recent management concepts and contemporary applications of management ideas in organizations. Creativity and creativity management, empowerment, outsourcing, crisis and crisis management, lean & virtual organizations, management in the information age, theories of process management, business process management (BPM), business process reengineering and workflow management are the main subjects of this course.

MAN 527 Research Methods for Business

The main purpose of this course is to furnish the students with necessary skills in order to enable them to manage any research project related to business. For this purpose, in the first phase of this course, main concepts of knowledge and science (e.g. paradigm, epistemology, ontology) are discussed. Then the concept of research, stages of the research (e.g. determining research question, theoretical background), main concepts in qualitative and quantitative research (e.g. sample, data collecting, hypothesis developing), and appropriate data analyzing methods are examined. At the end of the course, all the stages of a research proposal that is done by each student are evaluated.

MAN 530 Project Development and Management

This course covers basic project management concepts. Concepts, techniques, tools, and processes of project management are included in the topics. Other topics are: project selection, project planning, project organization, project control, budgeting and cost estimation, scheduling, resource allocation, project auditing and project termination.

MAN 532 Business Forecasting

This course covers the statistical fundamentals for business forecasting. Topics included are: exploring data patterns, smoothing methods, time series and their components, regression analysis, regression with time series data, and the Box-Jenkins ARIMA methodology.

MAN 534 Marketing Research and Applications

This course is divided into five modules. Basically, these five modules cover the following topics: introduction to marketing research, questionnaire design, non-survey-based research and research designs, sampling, research ethics, research report writing, and simple data analysis.

MAN 536 Operations Research

The purpose of the course is to provide the student with a working knowledge of operations research techniques for use in business. Using a real-world problem oriented approach, and using examples that emphasize the multi-disciplinary nature of business problems will achieve this purpose. Spreadsheets and optimization softwares will be used to strengthen students’ ability to make business decisions. Techniques covered will include linear, integer, and non-linear programming, network optimization, dynamic programming and implementation issues.

MAN 537 Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management involves the flows of materials and information among all of the firms that contribute value to a product, from the source of raw materials to end customers. Elements of supply chain management have been studied and practiced in marketing, logistics, and operations management. This course focuses on the basic concepts, techniques and algorithms for planning and coordinating the supply chain systems. Course topics include: supply chain network design, facility planning, inventory control, transportation, globalization and outsourcing, information technology, and global issues in supply chain management.

MAN 538 Corporate Governance

Although, corporate governance encompasses a wide range of issues extending from business law to business ethics; this course focuses on corporate governance from an organizational perspective. The course covers theoretical foundations and specific components of corporate governance and models of corporate governance as well.

MAN 539 Competitiveness and Clustering

Although competitiveness encompasses a wide range of issues extending from corporate level to national level; this course focuses on competitiveness from industrial perspective. The course covers functions and theoretical foundations of competitiveness and additionally main aspects of clustering, which is a tool for competitiveness.  

MAN 540 Corporate Branding Strategy

This course will focus on how to build, maintain, and exploit a company’s most valuable assets: its brands. Students will learn to define, develop and apply tactics and strategies in strategic brand management through a systematic model and process. The course will place emphasis on the concept of brand equity and its creation and growth through brand positioning, marketing programs, measurement of brand performance and strategies to sustain brands over time. The class will blend marketing theory and practice to provide perspective in corporate marketing and the brand management function.

MAN 541 Quantitative Skills

Quantitative Skills course provides an introduction to using statistical and mathematical methods to solve business problems.  It emphasizes the art and skill of converting problem descriptions into quantitative models, and the analysis and interpretation of these models. The course includes statistical models such as descriptive statistics, random variables, probability distributions, sampling distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, regression, and linear programming, which is a mathematical model. The course also includes the use of statistical and mathematical software programs.
