Applying to the Program

The requirements for applying to the program can be found on the webpage of Çankaya University’s Institute of Social Sciences (http://en.sbe.cankaya.edu.tr/admission-conditions/masters-programs/ ). The basic requirements of the Institute include:

  1. possession of a bachelor’s degree;
  2. For Thesis program, Minimum 55 in any section of the Turkish national ALES exam or 610 from GRE;
    For Non-Thesis program, no ALES or its equivalent exam is required.
  3. Minimum 75 in the Turkish national English language exam (YDS), its international equivalent, or Çankaya University’s English language proficiency exam.

Applicants for Thesis program are evaluated based on ALES score, undergraduate GPA, written and oral exams. The content of these exams varies, but in general focuses on candidates’ ability to make use of their knowledge and background, think critically, analyze texts (written or visual), and make reasoned arguments based on specific examples. Applications for Non-Thesis program are evaluated based on undergraduate GPA only. No exam is given to applicants to non-thesis program.

As the program is based on advanced literary and cultural studies, an applicant may be required to take some undergraduate courses in the department as a prerequisite to beginning M.A. coursework, if the department’s admissions committee believes that he or she would benefit from acquiring additional, relevant background knowledge and skills prior to embarking on graduate work.
